Scuba Skills Update

What is the Scuba Skills Update?

The Scuba Skills Update program is designed to help certified divers refresh their theoretical knowledge and practical diving skills after a period of inactivity. The goal is to regain confidence and ensure safety before returning to open water dives.

– Reinforcement of underwater safety and control
– One-on-one review with an SSI Instructor
– Refresher on fundamental techniques: buoyancy control, equipment use, communication, etc.
– Opportunity to practice in a controlled environment before returning to open water diving
– Avoid common mistakes due to lack of practice

Who is the target audience?

– To certified divers (Open Water or higher) who have not been diving for several months or years
– To those who want to feel more confident before a trip or deep dive
– To divers who have had a previous negative experience and want to regain confidence

What does the Scuba skills update consist of?

The Scuba Skills Update course consists of 3 main phases:

  • First part: in this first stage, a complete review of the diving equipment is carried out in order to ensure the safety and correct functioning of each component before starting the activity.

In addition to the technical review, this phase involves getting reacquainted with the equipment, remembering its assembly and use, which allows each diver to feel safe and comfortable. In some cases, the review is complemented by a brief explanation of preventive maintenance and the importance of detecting faults in time.

  • Second part: first dive of the course. Basic exercises are reviewed to ensure safety and familiarization with the typical exercises of the Open Water course and we practice the improvement of buoyancy.
  • Third part: second dive. It is planned as an experience similar to a guided dive. At this stage, the student has already reviewed his equipment and practiced the basic skills, so the main objective is for him to feel more and more comfortable underwater.

During this dive, the instructor accompanies and directs the course, but with a more relaxed approach and closer to a recreational dive. The aim is for the student to enjoy the environment, apply the techniques learned in a natural way and develop confidence in their ability to dive safely.
